really cute

Tonight was really cute the two girls starting playing with each other for the first time.  There was actual puppy growling and everything.  They are growing up so fast.  There ears are open finally and there puppy teeth are coming in.  Next week we are going to start the puppy food :)

eyes are opening

It is Day 9 and the girls eyes are starting to open.  They are doing really good and getting really big.  There eyes are just starting to open.

Spy's puppies have arrived.  Monday night at around 8PM Spy got into the whelping box and started an excessive amount of digging.  I didn't think to much of it as her temperature had still not had dropped and Spy likes to dig before she settles in for the evening.  But a little later I noticed her making some funny abdomen motions, just a small one.  I just caught the end of it so I waited to see if it happened again.  When it did, I went over to the box to check out Spy and she had a different look on her face and was in a very weird position.  It was time to call in the puppy help.  I called my friend and told her it looked like Spy was going into labor.  When I looked back at Spy again and she was panting and contracting again, I knew it was time.  Spy didn't waste to much  time I had called my friend at 9PM and Spy had the first puppy girl at 10:30 and the second girl at 11PM on Monday August 29.
Both girls are doing good.
The puppy that was born first, the red collar puppy is a screamer.  Whenever she is away from mom and needs to get back, she screams until she finds mom.  The no collar is much quiter.  (thank goodness) 
Apparently I have been told the red collar puppy takes after her mother.
Who by the way is an awesome mother, but is sort of a diva mother.
If the puppy is to far away and is screaming, Spy cries, pokes her head out of the box, looks at me and cries for me to bring the puppy to her.  Just like she does if she can't get to a toy.

False Alarm

So I started taking Spy's temperature this weekend.  When taking it this morning  I  noted that the temperature had dropped to 98.6 from her usually 99.5 to 100.  So I took it again to make sure it was again 98.6.  So I got nervous thinking she was possibly getting ready to have puppies in 24 hours and I hadn't had her x-rayed yet.  So I called the vet and they squeezed  us in at noon.  The x-ray was good but not quite what I expected.  It showed only 2 puppies.  I guess I thought she looked bigger than just two puppies, but then again I have never bred a dog before so I guess I don't really know how big, big is. 
It also turns out Spy's temperature has returned to normal 99.7, I have found out that her mother did the same thing.  Her temperature did a drop and return, 5 days before she delivered Spy's litter. 
So now I will continue to monitor Spy's temperature until it drops again and hopefully next time it will be the real thing.

8 weeks

New pictures of Spy at 8 weeks, just 5 more days till I know how many pups she is carrying.  She is so cute as a momma doberman.

7 weeks

Spy has grown another inch around the waist,  I picked up the whelping box and whelping stuff from my friend the other day.  I am getting more and more excited and nervous.  Will find out how many puppies are in there in 11 days!

6 weeks and counting

Today I took two pictures of Spy, pictures don't do her justice.  She looks much more pregnant in person.  But she is still a cutie pie :)

1 inch

A friend at work mentioned that I should measure Spy's belly so on Wednesday I took two measurements around her waist/belly area and then this morning I decided to see what the new number was just for the heck of it.
Boy was I surprised to see that it had increased by an inch.  So either she is getting fat or the puppies are growing :)

Day 32

Well I hate to say, but I am pretty sure Spy is with puppies.  She is definetly getting a tummy and is acting differently.  Very clingy and if I can say a little on the emotional side.  Not her normal self. 
I will keep monitoring as if she is pregnant she should start showing even more in the upcoming weeks. 

2 weeks

It been 2 weeks still can't tell if she is pregnant or not?  Spy is not telling me anything she is being very secretive.

So I have a theme for the litter. It will be Spy movies.And if you are so inclined to also try, you can try and pick a call name from the same Spy movie.Believe it or not, I have mine already for a female.The movie is For you Eyes Only and the female Spy from the movie is Brink. So the puppies name will be Brink. I have a list of name but I can't figure out how to attach the list or cut and paste it into the blog.

Back Home

Well I am back home, wish there was a pregnacy test kit for dogs.
Now I just gotta wait and see if she gets big and starts to look pregnant.
So according to the 63 day perpetual whelping calendar on the DPCA web page. Spy should be whelping the pups on Aug 29 or Aug 31 depending on which day took. I don't plan on doing an ultrasound so I will have to wait till we can tell by her outward appearance.

Trip

Well after the last progesterone result went up again we decided to bred her in 3 days, so I took the trip to MA on Sunday and I am now sitting in the hotel room after the my first ever breeding experience. Spy was a very good girl. Now I get to sit around and wait to do it again in 48 hrs. Boy, I hope this all works out. You know I knew the puppy part would be hard. I just didn't realize that this end of it would be just as difficult.

Test number 2

Today we went for test number 2. We are anxiously awaiting the results and will find out tomorrow. I am not good at waiting.

Test Results

Today I got the results from Spy's first progestrone test. It was 0.5, low so she is not ready to be wisked away to MA to meet her new boyfriend.
Will be taking her level every 3 days, hopefully it won't take long as the test is not cheap. No one said having puppies was going to be cheap and I am not doing it to make money. I just want a healthy and happy puppy out of my incredible Spy girl.

Trying this again

So I am going to try this blog thing again.
This time it will be about my breeding experience. I am going to breed by 5yr old female doberman. Stardust X-men's Spy Mystique, she is an incredible agility doberman with good structure, great longevity, great health and great temperment. I am breeding her to a CH, Sch1 male doberman. who also has those qualities but has better structure than she does. They both have all there health testing done and it is all good.
Spy has just gone into season, so we will start progestrone testing in a few days. I am nervous and excited as I have never done this before.
It should be an adventure.
